Providing solutions to rotating machinery vibration
problems
IRD Mechanalysis operates a National and International
Consulting Service specialising in reducing the undesirable
effects of excessive vibration and noise of rotating machinery.
Requests for services are undertaken on receipt of a Purchase
Order. If the client is in ‘good standing’ then
a Consulting Service Engineer will be on site at the earliest
opportunity.
The IRD Mechanalysis Engineer will assess the plant problem and
consider a range of issues: the plant history, operational
and process changes, recent maintenance and the installation
as a whole. Once the initial audit has been completed he will
initially take overall vibration readings on all the accessible
bearing points of the machine in appropriate units –
( Displacement / Velocity / Acceleration / Spike Energy )
in three directions, namely, horizontal, vertical and axial
direction. If the measured vibration level outside acceptable
limits, as per ISO 2372 or as per manufacturers standards,
then a detailed analysis will be undertaken. Vibration signatures
(Amplitude Vs Frequency plots) will be collected to pinpoint
the exact cause of the vibration. Defects such as unbalance,
misalignment, bearing problems, resonances, foundation faults,
etc. are the more common findings.
The analysis will be carried out using state of the art FFT
analysers cum in-situ dynamic balancing instruments.
Before leaving the Plant Site the IRD Mechanalysis Consulting
Engineer will submit an ‘on-site report’ summarising
the priority issues and any remedial action to be taken. This
will be ‘signed-off’ as having received it by
the Plant Engineer concerned. Within 10 days of returning
to the office, a more detailed report of the complete consulting
service undertaken will be submitted along with the invoice
of charges and expenses.
